To Overcome Challenges, Stop Comparing Yourself to Other
To Overcome Challenges, Stop Comparing Yourself to Other
Today, I am writing about a video that made a substantial difference in my life. There, a man named Dean Furness talks about his experiences and difficult challenges in his life story.
There he stated that when we were babies, almost all of our lives were measured by our height and weight, and as we got older it became our speed and strength. And even at school, we have exam scores and today with our salary and job performance. It seems that those personal averages are often used to measure where we compare with our peers. Let’s look at it a little differently. That personal average is a very personal thing, and it is for us, and if we focus on it and work to build it, we can begin to achieve amazing things. The reason for his statement was an accident that happened to him in 2011. In that accident left him as a paraplegic without the use of his legs. After, he compared what he once thought he could do with what he could do, and he was disappointed. But after years of rehabilitation, challenging work, and the encouragement of his physical therapist, he became a wheelchair player. He described in words how he trained as a wheelchair player.
"And all I wanted to do was go fast. And so I did what I thought I should do. I started researching wheelchair racing. And I went online and I found the best of the best, I learned their technique, I learned about the equipment, and I was lucky to have a coach that offered me a way to get started. And after talking with him and having him help me get those things underway, as I was leaving, he says, "You know, you should do the 2017 Chicago Marathon." And he's the coach, I can't tell him no. So with that guidance, I went back home, and I got to work, much like in a prior way. And I continued researching, but I had learned my lesson. I was really careful not to compare with how accomplished those people on the internet were and how fast they were because if I had, I probably never would have continued going through with it. "
He later became a skilled wheelchair player due to his dedication, hard work, and effort.
